Rev. Benita Lewis

Rev. Benita Lewis is a native Washingtonian.  She is the only child born to Mrs. Benzena Wilds Lewis and the late Rev. J. Edward Lewis.  Benita attended the public schools of Montgomery County Maryland, and was quite active in the Resurrection Baptist Church where her father was the founder and pastor.  

Rev. Lewis attended North Carolina A&T State University (Greensboro), and graduated Suma Cum Laude in Child Development.  She became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at A&T’s Alpha Mu Chapter.  She earned a MS degree from The Ohio State University (Columbus) in Family Relations and Human Development. Rev. Lewis has also earned a professional certificate in school administration and supervision from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland.    In 2007, Rev. Lewis earned a Masters of Divinity Degree (with an emphasis in Pastoral Care and Counseling) from the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, and in May 2007, she was also the recipient of the Maryland Bible Society Award for Proficiency in Biblical Preaching, and in the fall of 2006 a sermon written by Rev. Lewis, entitled “A Message from the Original Promise Keepers” was published in the Seminarians Issue of The African American Pulpit Journal.  In 2016, Rev. Lewis completed her studies in pastoral counseling from Loyola University Maryland (Baltimore).  She will continue to fulfill her call and aspiration by returning to her undergraduate alma mater to earn a doctorate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling with a focus on trauma.
